History

Steeped in San Dieguito Valley heritage, La Valle Coastal Club is in the heart of Whispering Palms, a Rancho Santa Fe enclave basking in “unlimited sunshine and a tropical climate.” Just 20 miles north of downtown San Diego, this 300-acre oasis was envisioned in 1960 by renowned golf course builder Roy Canady as a sun-drenched paradise.

The original 18 holes designed by Henry and David Rainville, Inc. opened in 1965, with the East Course following in 1973 to create a 27-hole layout. Under Ted Vallas’ 23 year ownership, Whispering Palms Country club supported the surrounding residential development and added its first guest rooms in 1975. Rebranded as Morgan Run by new owners Cobblestone Properties in 1993, the North and South courses underwent a Jay Morrish redesign three years later.

In 1999, Dallas-based Invited Inc. acquired the property from Cobblestone Properties. Under their stewardship, Morgan Run has continually evolved as an exclusive, multifaceted destination.

In July 2023, Meriwether Companies, a real estate firm fostering vibrant communities focused on outdoor recreation, health, wellness and community acquired the property from Invited, Inc. Their $24 million+ investment aims to reimagine and enhance the racquet sports, golf, dining, and hotel offerings over the next couple of years with minimal disruption to members. This transformation included rebranding the storied club as the La Valle Coastal Club you enjoy today.

Some call it their second home. We call it the La Valle Coastal Club, where easy fun in the sun meets golf, swim, tennis and more.
